Our Trustees

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is made up of members of the community surrounding Warley Woods. They are volunteers and are voted in by members of Warley Woods Community Trust.  It is the Trustees of Warley Woods Community Trust who make all the major decisions about what happens in Warley Woods and how the Trust grows and develops.  The Community Trust was created by local residents to ensure the future of Warley Woods was in the hands of people who used it and cared about it and the current trustees are the embodiment of that principle.  While the Community Trust may have paid staff, these are the people who make the decisions.

Every Trustee also takes part in at least one Subgroup and you will also find them all involved in various other activities, like maintenance volunteering, supporting corporate groups, running events, fundraising, writing articles or polices, or developing and managing projects.  They also provide out of hours back up for staff and are often the ones who at the forefront of dealing with problems that occur on site.  This is how the Community Trust gets so much done and can respond so quickly - having this army of committed local residents wanting the best for the Woods.  Some of our Trustees have been on the Board from the very start and have been part of its growth and evolution but there is always a healthy departure and arrival of Trustees.  This keeps the Board a dynamic and energetic hub of volunteers for the Trust.

Could you be a Trustee?

We always need new people to join us, with new ideas and strengths.  The Trust really benefits from having a range of local residents involved in its management.

Being a Trustee with Warley Woods Community Trust requires more time than just one meeting each month. We have very few staff and so Trustees are often key volunteers giving time outside meeting times depending on your time, skills and experience.

We have our Board Meetings on the third Tuesday of each month, in the evening, but Trustees are usually involved in another committee or project group and will perhaps have a second meeting each month. These are usually evenings or can be planned to work round your commitments.  Trustees often help at big events too.

The amount of time you put in is largely up to the individual but it will be around five hours a month and can be a lot more if you are willing and able. We appreciate whatever you can give.

As a charity trustee of a limited company you have the responsibility of ensuring the business is run effectively and developing the strategy for Warley Woods Community Trust and reviewing its performance against the aims and objectives.

If you are interested in finding out more about the role of a Trustee at Warley Woods, please contact Viv Cole, the Trust Manager, ([email protected])and she can arrange for you to meet with one of the existing Trustees so that you can get more idea of what is involved and whether it would be right for you.  We encourage people who are interested to come and observe a Board Meeting so that they have a better idea as to how the Trust is run.  It is usual for someone standing to be a Trustee to do this at our AGM in October for which nominations have to be received by the end of August.

If you would like to know the skills and relevant interests of the current make up of the Board then please find the self assessment detail below.
